The Minister of the Cabinet determined 23 October 2009 as the date on which this Act came into operation, with the exception of sections 1 and 8. This Act amended the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 57 of 2003 by:
- Providing for the assignment of national parks, special nature reserves and heritage sites to the South African National Parks;
- Making provision for flight corridors and permission of the management authority to fly over a special nature reserve, national park or heritage site; and
- Providing for specific areas to be available for training and testing of aircraft.
